Raising a human being is very big responsibility but raising a child with special needs is an entirely different story. However, American citizens from Utah, Adrianne and Jason Stewart took the challenge without hesitation, and their lives changed since.
The couple learned about Maria’s placement at an orphanage in the Philippines in 2014. When they received her photos, they discovered that the adorable baby girl was born limbless. They fell instantly in love with Maria and thought that they needed her to be part of their family.
“It breaks my heart to think of any child growing up without a family,” Adrianne said during an interview with ANC 24/7. They revealed that Maria’s smile is one of the things that convinced them to push through with adopting her.
Adrianne and Jason flew all the way to the Philippines to bring home their beautiful new daughter. Thankfully, Maria did not have much trouble adjusting to her new family, but it took some time for her to adjust living in the US. It wasn’t long until she became the pride and joy of the Stewart family.
Fortunately, Maria settled in and now manages to live a normal life. Her parents say that she does things as other kids, but in a different way. She currently goes to school and attends physical, speech, and occupational therapies.
Prior to adopting Maria, Jason and Adrianne had two biological daughters and one adopted son who’s also from the Philippines. “It felt right for us to adopt from the Philippines because of the love that I have for the people and the culture,” Jason said.
