We Filipinos have a strange way of celebrating birthdays. Our friends and acquaintances tend to ask us for “libre” or a “handa”, even a simple one. Our closest friends may opt to give some gifts, but it is always the birthday celebrant’s responsibility to celebrate the day.
Well, this tricycle driver from General Santos City does have a unique way of celebrating his birthday. He did not do it with extravagant fanfare, balloons, or ornate cakes. Rather, he celebrated it by giving free service to his passengers for a day.
This driver’s one of a kind act was caught by a Facebook user named Heart Sangalan. In her post which was uploaded on August 18, 2017, she shared the following story:
God bless kuya, and more birthdays to come po.”
She then included some pictures, one of which showed a sign pasted on the vehicle’s front mirror, saying: “Paalala: Sa lahat po ng mga pasahero ko sa araw na ito, libre po ang sakay ninyo dahil birthday ko po ngayon, maraming Salamat po sa inyong pagtangkilik.”
The comments on the post were filled with expressions of praise for the kind manong driver. Hats off to you sir, and may you have more birthdays to come!
